The Scholar Athlete of the Year
Awards are presented by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table to
deserving individuals who have excelled both academically and athletically.
The students are selected by the principal, senior counselor, athletic
directors, and coaches at the various high schools and colleges
participating in the Athletic Round Table weekly luncheons.
The significance of this award goes beyond just
recognizing individual students with outstanding academic and
athletic achievement. It is an acknowledgement that the community
lauds the unique abilities and accomplishments of these exceptional
young people. It is the goal of the Athletic Round Table to remind
the community, including children and parents, that it is possible
for a student to participate in athletics and yet maintain outstanding
academic achievement.
Criteria for Selection:
- The person nominated should participate in high
school or college level varsity athletics.
- Academic qualification of the individual to be
honored should include a 3.5 grade point average or better in
conjunction with other scholarly activities such as honor societies,
or extracurricular activities such as science or culture clubs.
- This award has traditionally been given to a
senior who is involved in school activities.
